An Evaluation of Media Ethics Debates
One of the possible concepts to define today’s world is the ‘media-sphere’. Media is the ground for all kinds of human activities, such as learning, socialization, communication, etc. The tremendous and glorious development of humanity over the last few centuries has led to a change in media relations. This change should be reconsidered in the context of the moral rules that accompany all kinds of human activities, which are necessitated by the ever-changing nature of today’s media relations. In the context of this change, the paper argues that it is difficult to view the media in terms of classical theories: It is not possible to apply general principles to specific situations or to explain each particular situation by applying universal ethical codes due to professional specialization and the chaotic nature of situations. To overcome this difficulty, the possibility of global communication ethics is sought both in the context of situation ethics and particularist ethics oriented towards singular situations, as well as by rethinking collectivist and individualist ethical approaches.
